Case Study: Hybrid Battery Replacement

Many hybrid vehicles are now reaching the age where they are starting to experience hybrid battery system faults – but did you know you don’t have to return your vehicle to the dealer for repair?

This week we had a Toyota Camry present with hybrid system warnings on dash and fault P0A80 logged.

Following diagnostic checks, we confirmed the hybrid battery pack had an internal failure due to a load resistance in one of the packs cells. A new replacement battery pack was ordered and two of our fully qualified EV technicians carried out the full battery pack replacement, following all high voltage safety precautions including powering down and isolating the high voltage system.

Once the high voltage pack was replaced, we repowered the system and road tested the vehicle, confirming that the vehicle was repaired.

Another hybrid back on the road safely and efficiently, with dealership-quality repairs completed by our qualified in-house EV technicians.

We've answered some questions about hybrid battery replacements

What are the signs of a failing hybrid battery?

Common signs include warning lights on the dashboard, reduced fuel economy, poor performance, battery cooling fan noise, or the vehicle entering limp mode.

What does fault code P0A80 mean?

P0A80 generally indicates that the hybrid battery pack needs replacing due to deterioration or failure in one or more battery cells.

Do I need to take my hybrid vehicle to the dealer for battery replacement?

No. Qualified independent workshops with trained EV and hybrid technicians can diagnose and replace hybrid batteries safely and professionally.

Is hybrid battery replacement safe?

Yes, when carried out by trained technicians following correct high-voltage isolation and safety procedures, hybrid battery replacement is safe and reliable.

How long does a hybrid battery last?

Hybrid battery life varies depending on vehicle age, usage, and maintenance, but many batteries last 8–15 years before replacement may be required.
